What We Do

FELLOWSHIP
Pittsburgh Area Peace Corps Association potluck dinnerThough we've served over several decades and in different parts of the world, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers share an experience that is understood by other RPCVs, which makes socializing a natural part of PAPCA activities. Throughout the year we host a variety of events that invite RPCVs, Future Peace Corps Volunteers, friends and families to get together and share stories, advice and good fun.

Potlucks: Twice a year we host potlucks; one in the summer and in the winter. These shared gatherings are great opportunities to network with other volunteers, break bread, and tell stories.

Monthly Dinners: Once a month (typically during the school months) PAPCA hosts monthly dinners at different international restaurants in the Pittsburgh area.

Other: PAPCA also hosts a book club, summer camping trip, Pirates baseball game, and more!

Even long after their Peace Corps service, PAPCA members are still looking to give back.

Volunteering: PAPCA members regularly volunteer at Global Links, a medical relief and development organization dedicated to promoting environmental stewardship and improving health in resource-poor communities, primarily in Latin American and the Caribbean.

Peace Corps Partnership: Each year, PAPCA members make a donation towards a current volunteer's project through the Peace Corps Partnership Program, often focusing on projects sponsored by Pittsburgh area volunteers serving abroad.

Special Donation Fund: From time to time, PAPCA may accept donations for a timely cause. Recently, a collection was organized for the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) Ebola Relief Fund.

GUIDING FUTURE VOLUNTEERS AND RPCVs
Returned Peace Corps Volunteers always enjoy sharing their experiences with others, and throughout the year there are countless opportunities to meet and mingle.

Welcome Back Send Off Party: In partnership with the Western Pennsylvania Regional Peace Corps Recruiter, PAPCA members join one a year to welcome back newly returned volunteers and send off new nominees and invitees at the annual Welcome Back Send Off Party.

Peace Corps and Pittsburgh Area Peace Corps Association Welcome Back Send Off celebrationRecruiting and Third Goal Work: From time to time, PAPCA members are invited by the Regional Recruiter to share their story and answer questions about Peace Corps. Tabling at career fairs or speaking at informational panel discussions are examples of the recruiting and third goal work that PAPCA members can participate in.
